Prenatal, Childbirth, and Postnatal support and guidance for mothers and families

What is a doula?

A doula is a woman with experience and knowledge of childbirth, who helps pregnant women to bring their babies into the world in the way they wish.  A doula offers information, emotional and physical support, and advocacy through the process of pregnancy, birth, and post-partum.

Who needs a doula?

For millennia, women have been supported through pregnancy and birth by other women.  The ideal setting for a safe, comfortable childbirth is one in which the birthing mother feels completely supported and secure.  Although a partner’s support and assistance can be invaluable during this process, a doula can also strengthen and protect the environment in which the couple journey through the birth process together.  The doula is a woman with experience and knowledge of birth, and thus the ability to stay calm in the face of birth’s inevitable surprises.  The doula’s knowledge and experience of the specific challenges of birth frees the mother’s partner to provide her with emotional support without bearing responsibility for understanding the intricacies of the birth process.

Sabina individual approach

Sabina Arevalo has 8 years of experience working with childbirth and teaching about pregnancy, birth, and parenting.  She has training in a wide variety of techniques and philosophies, ranging from traditional Mexican midwifery to Nonviolent Communication to dance, movement, bodywork and massage.  Her knowledge is integrated into her unique approach as a doula.

Sabina offers physical support to women before, during and after childbirth.  Such support includes Conscious Touch, bodywork, massage, nourishment, acupressure, dance, and, in the event of breech, transverse, or uncomfortable pregnancies, gentle techniques for baby-turning.  Sabina also brings emotional support to women, partners, and families.  Her emotional support is grounded in principles of loving-kindness, empathy, compassion, and empowerment.  Finally, Sabina brings a vast wealth of knowledge about how to help women and families bring forth healthy, happy babies in the safest, most comfortable, and most empowered way possible.

Practical Information:

First you call or e-mail me for an appointment. Then we met and first see if we feel comfortable together. From there on we discus to get clarity of what you would like and how i can support you in that. You can then take this home an decide wether you would like to continue or not.

If you do want to continue, we get together again and make a plan of how many times before the birth and after birth we will meet. This depends on how far you are pregnant and the support you need. With this plan we also make a payment plan that is as comfortable for you as for me.
